Does Canada Need An All-Canadian-Movie Channel? Paul Gross Believes We Do

Canadian actor and director Paul Gross was in studio to talk with about his latest endeavour: he’s one of the many voices behind Starlight: The Canadian Movie Channel, a specialty channel that would be dedicated to broadcasting Canadian movies.

The channel would also help foster growth in the Canadian film industry by creating the Starlight Feature Film Fund. The Fund would provide full financing for 8-12 new Canadian feature films a year, all of which would first be broadcast on Starlight. The fund could see upwards of $22 million a year allocated to telling Canadian stories on film.

February 27, 2013 is the deadline to have your voice heard by the CRTC if you are opposed to the channel.

Starlight will get the opportunity to defend its bid to the CRTC in April 2013, and a final decision on Starlight (as well as other applicants) comes in June 2013.
