How To Celebrate Canada Day and Canadian Art with Sophie Sellu | Explore Canada

Join Sophie Sellu as she celebrates Canada Day and learns about traditional Canadian art in Ottawa.

Sophie Sellu is an Artisan and the Founder of Grain & Knot, in the UK. Grain & Knot is a collection of wooden goods hand crafted by Sophie and her expertise in woodworking. Sophie has travelled to Ottawa, Ontario to learn about Canadian culture and creativity. Since Grain & Knot is all about hand crafted art, Sophie has come to Ottawa to learn and be inspired by Canadian art.

The National Gallery of Canada houses a number of pieces of fine art and artifacts that are deeply rooted in Canadian history. Curator of Historical Indigenous Art, Alex Nahwegahbow, shows Sophie paintings from the famous artists in the Canadian Group of Seven. Sophie learns more about a hand crafted birch canoe that is a reminder of the empty landscapes prior to the settlers inhabiting the land, as depicted in the paints from the Group of Seven.

To further experience Canadian culture, Sophie attends Canada Day celebrations in the capital city of Ottawa.
